From time to time, individuals really do have to be told twice. Last year, a well known character actor with an extensive filmography was arrested for skipping out on a hotel bill. Randy Quaid, and wife Evi Quaid, were arrested on charges of attempting to defraud an inn. The pair posted bail. Then they went home. It isn’t as like he couldn’t afford it, so that’s why the event got so much attention. Last year’s police arrest occurred in Texas, however the alleged fraud was perpetrated in California. Recently, both were imprisoned again for illegally residing at a property they used to own however had sold in Santa Barbara.
Quaid imprisoned for skipping on hotel bill
This is not the initial time within the last year that Randy and Evi Quaid are in trouble. It seems as though it is becoming an annual event. The initial arrest for suspicion of defrauding an inn happened on Sept. 30 of 2009. They stayed a night at a posh hotel in California, and forgot or refused to pay for the night. A warrant was issued for their arrests, and they were picked up in Texas. They posted bail quickly. However, they also missed various court dates. Eventually, both went back to court where Evi settled for probation and community service. According to CNN, the two also paid the hotel bill off, and it all seemed settled.
No such factor as squatters’ legal rights
Some things tend to stick in a persons’ memory. One of them is normally selling a house. Randy and Evi Quaid must have some kind of problem with memory, as selling the home did not register. The two sold a property they owned in Santa Barbara years ago. They were recently arrested for taking up residence illegally in the guest house on the property. Apparently, the two were confident they still owned the property, despite paperwork produced to the contrary. According to ABC, the cops were having none of it and imprisoned them for burglary. If they really believed they owned the property, it appears weird that they did not go into the main house, and instead went to the guest house.
Rationale seems slim
Randy Quaid is the older brother of actor Dennis Quaid. Dennis has declined to comment on the incidents. Maybe there is something in the smog. Hollywood appears to breed a particularly strong variety of insanity. Perhaps the idea of not breaking the law doesn’t occur to the Quaids, or others like Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton.
